This week, the Hill City community will come together to enjoy Downtown Lynchburg Restaurant Week, happening January 17th – 26th! The Downtown Lynchburg Association (DLA) and other key regional partners in the restaurant industry want to invite local community members to experience this one-of-a-kind annual celebration of cuisine and dining happening across the downtown area at the center of Virginia’s fifth-largest metro.
Downtown Restaurant Week is an excellent opportunity for people around the area to explore the finest elements of the local dining scene, try out delicious new selections from the best eateries in town, and support small businesses around the area specializing in the culinary arts.
As a part of Downtown Restaurant Week, the Downtown Lynchburg Association features 19 restaurants, each offering something unique about the Lynchburg dining scene to locals and college students and even drawing in visitors from other areas of the Commonwealth to take part in this celebration of cuisine.
From sipping on a cocktail and tasty spinach dip with a view of the entire city atop 7 Rooftop Bar, delicious chicken in a yellow pepper sauce with a Peruvian flair at Inka Grill, and even topping it off with an unforgettable flourless chocolate raspberry cake at RA Bistro, Downtown Restaurant Week truly offers something for everyone to whet their culinary palette, if not deepen their taste buds by trying new items off one of dozens of menus that they may never have experienced before.
Mike Nevarez, General Manager of Parry Restaurant group, reflected on the importance of the annual celebration, “We participate and feel that it is a huge opportunity to expose our restaurant to people who don’t come in regularly. The initial start of restaurant week, it has changed some, it was initially started when restaurants needed business… now it is a time for people to get exposed to the restaurants at a much more reasonable price. We don’t offer the full menu but do offer the most popular items, and think this is great for everyone” Nevarez’s Parry Restaurant Group operates a series of restaurants, not only the esteemed dining options at Lynchburg’s historic Virginian Hotel, The Skyline as well as William & Henry Steakhouse, but other prized downtown destinations such as Bootlegger’s, My Dog Duke’s Diner, noting that that the latter two restaurants would be featured in the celebration of dining.
James Ford, DLA’s marketing director, specifically discussed the importance of the nine-day celebration: “Supporting our downtown restaurants this January is more than just enjoying food; it’s about helping these local businesses thrive during their toughest season. The community’s support keeps our vibrant dining scene alive, strengthens jobs, and strengthens our downtown ecosystem when it matters most.”
This year’s celebration won’t just have a social and cultural impact but will also have an economic one. A fact that might surprise many about Lynchburg is that it is the largest city in the nation that is not directly serviced by an interstate highway, which means some bypass Lynchburg on the way to Washington, D.C., Richmond, Roanoke, and other destinations. Events like Downtown Restaurant Week have the potential to change that, giving visitors more reasons to come to Lynchburg, driving home a force of economic development that could encourage more businesses, both restaurant and non-restaurant alike, to invest in the region and make their home here.
With hundreds of delicious items featured on dozens of menus at over 20 participating restaurants, whether you are a longtime resident of Lynchburg or happen to be visiting the area, this year’s Downtown Restaurant Week is not one you want to miss!
