Why Lynchburg Agenda?
After leaving my position as Publisher overseeing three news sites in Central Virginia in November 2022, I wondered if my four-decade career in the industry was at its end. The media landscape was evolving—both in how large companies operated and how consumers engaged with news.
I then became a consultant for two smaller companies and took a chance by applying for Google’s News Initiative, despite thinking my chances were slim among the numerous North American applicants. To my surprise, I was accepted, marking the start of the journey.
Surrounded by a diverse group of digital publishers, industry experts, and successful digital entrepreneurs, all serious about local news, I dove into an intensive eight-week bootcamp. There, I learned about the transformative power of artificial intelligence in optimizing workflows, generating images, and editing content. More importantly, I learned to engage with my community directly to discover the local news and information they truly need and want. This experience helped me establish significant connections and gather best practices nationwide—resources that now enhance the content of Lynchburg Agenda.
What is Lynchburg Agenda?
Launched in early 2024 by myself and former co-workers and friends, Lynchburg Agenda is an independent, hyper-local publication containing exclusively Greater Lynchburg news and information. We aim to deliver news and insights that matter, brought to you by journalists who are not just reporters—they live here and are deeply embedded in our community.
