Triples, Free Throws, and Defense Put Lady Flames Over the Top
As Greater Lynchburg thawed from days without power due to Winter Storm Blair, the Liberty Women’s Basketball team brought the heat, lighting up the court with a sizzling performance.
On a snowy Saturday, Liberty used a barrage of three-pointers to defeat Louisiana Tech 75-64 at Liberty Arena, marking the Lady Flames' sixth consecutive home win. Liberty (10-5, 3-1 CUSA) dominated from the start, connecting on six triples in the first quarter and never relinquishing the lead.
All 11 Liberty players scored, and the Lady Flames' bench outscored LA Tech's reserves 39-12. The win ties Liberty with FIU for second place in Conference USA.
The Difference
Liberty shot 43.1% from the field, an impressive 52.4% (11-of-21) from beyond the arc, and a season-high 93.3% (14-of-15) from the free-throw line. Lady Flame defense held LA Tech (9-6, 2-2 CUSA) to 38.6% shooting overall and forced 17 turnovers, leading to 23 Liberty points.
Liberty was led by Asia Boone with 13 points, including three first-quarter triples.
For LA Tech, Robyn Lee scored a game-high 19 points, and Paris Bradley added 17 points with three triples.
Game Changer
The Lady Flames exploded out of the gate, hitting 6-of-10 from three-point range in the first quarter to take a commanding 26-11 lead. Boone’s three triples set the tone, and Liberty’s defense forced six turnovers in the opening frame.
