Boonsboro Country Club saw another thrilling display of youth prowess this weekend, as Chesapeake's own Trey Marrion, a standout from Great Bridge High School, shot the second-lowest round of the Boonsboro Invitational. His 5-under-par 66 secured the coveted Fox Puss Trophy, placing him three strokes ahead of the 2023 champion and fellow teenager, Logan Reilly. The trend of youthful dominance was evident last summer too, when two teenagers reached the final of the Virginia Amateur Championship at Boonsboro.

Marrion wrapped up the three-day tournament with an impressive 6 under par, carding rounds of 69, 72, and 66 (207). Reilly claimed the runner-up spot at 3 under, finishing with a 1-under 70 on Sunday.

Marrion's performance on Sunday featured six birdies and 11 pars, marred only by a single bogey. He was particularly effective on the par-5 No. 16, playing the hole at four under par across the three days.

Amherst native and former champion Ryan Stinnett, who led heading into the final round, ended up tied for third with Nick Brediger at 1 under after shooting a 1-over 72 on Sunday. They were among the only four players to finish under par, as the tournament conditions shifted from hot and dry on Friday to cooler and damper over the weekend.

Thomas Lawton, a past champion and Boonsboro member, showed he still has game by firing the tournament's low round 65 on Sunday, finishing fifth at 1 over. Peter Ramsey, also from Boonsboro, tied for sixth at 2 over, while Luke Libbey of New Covenant School ended in a tie for eighth at 3 over.

Senior Divisions

In the Senior division, Steve Serrao consistently led or tied at the end of each round, ultimately won the division at 3 over with 76 on Sunday. John Hurst was one shot back at 4 over.

In the Super Senior Division, David Partridge who was one over for the tournament clinched victory with a birdie on the second playoff hole against Mark Alonzi.

A Milestone at Boonsboro: First Ever Hole in One on the Par 4 12th

The tournament also saw a remarkable first—Senior golfer Neil Davis achieved the very first hole-in-one on the par-four 12th hole. In recent years, the Fox Puss Committee moved the tees up on hole 12 to encourage players capable of reaching the green to take the risk and go for it. Davis tee shot most likely traveled approximately 266 yards to find the hole. After a birdie on the arguably difficult #11, Davis aced #12 on his way to a final round 77.
