In high school I was introduced to a crêpe for the first time in French class. The paper-thin pancake was layered with Nutella (also a first for me and lifelong addiction since) and topped with powdered sugar.

Until the Batter Bar opened its food truck in 2019, I was having to make them in my kitchen. Now, the creperie has been operating out of its store front next to the Lynchburg Community Market since 2021 and has been serving up not only sweet and savory crêpes, but salads, sandwiches and other pastries.

My mom and I have always been big crêpe fans – her love affair began when she visited Paris in the early ‘90s – so we love to indulge ourselves from time to time.

She and I split the “Spring Chicken” crêpe which consisted of grilled chicken, goat cheese, baby greens, avocado, tomato, balsamic and green goddess vinaigrette. My sister got the “Chicken Club” made up of chicken, bacon, swiss, lettuce, tomato and maple Dijon on a croissant.

Afterwards, the three of us split our fan-favorite that we return to each time, the “Hazelberry” crêpe with Nutella, strawberries and whipped cream.

Everything we ordered was larger than life and mouth-watering. The staff is always so kind and the atmosphere, welcoming as jazz instrumentals play overhead.
