2104 Wards Road www.koreanzk-bbq.com
Koreanz opened earlier this year in the former Famous Anthony’s on Wards Road and if you remember the interior of Famous Anthony’s, you will not recognize it now.
The new owners have transformed the restaurant into a cozy, upscale dining experience with low lighting, fire features and comfortable booths.
The menu does not feature Korean barbeque yet, but I am told that is coming soon so I was slightly disappointed to be unable to try that but opted for the Korean fried chicken and got six regular and six with a sweet and spicy sauce.
My two friends ordered the Bulgogi bibimbap with marinated beef with egg, bean sprout, zucchini, mushrooms, and carrots over rice.
My dish was delicious but next time, I would either order the barbeque (if it is on the menu) or the bibimbap, which I thought was full of flavor.
I am new to Korean food, so this was a fun place to be adventurous and the wait staff was helpful with explaining what was on the menu and very patient.
My friends also ordered bubble tea which they said was excellent.
I am excited that Lynchburg is where we can expand our culinary offerings around town, and I hope people will try new spots like this even if it is unfamiliar to them. It is fun to explore different dishes from around the world and share them with friends and family in our city.
The restaurant was packed when I went on a Thursday evening, so I hope Koreanz continues to do well and once they add the barbeque on the menu, I will be back!
