Walking into Truss restaurant transports locals to a sleek, high-end dining room and bar that might be found in any cosmopolitan city across the country – but it’s right here in Lynchburg.
Open since June 2023 as a cornerstone of the 2204 Bedford Market, Truss offers lunch, dinner, and brunch as well as some great happy hour specials. A rainy-day happy hour brought my friend and I into the restaurant after debating multiple options. We chose Truss because its happy hour includes both food and interesting drinks and runs from 4 to 6 p.m.

The designers of Truss cultivated an upscale, yet welcoming atmosphere with tall, open ceilings, appropriate mood lighting, and fun fixtures. My friend and I sidled up to the bar and slid into two comfortable leather bar stools. Taylor, the bartender, greeted us warmly and recommended the Tinto de Verano drink to start us off.

Consisting of a bright, fruit-forward yet dry Spanish red wine, a splash of lemon-lime soda, and garnished with citrus, it was a perfect choice and at $8, it was also a steal. After whetting our palates, my friend and I were ready for some food. Truss’s happy hour food menu includes two of my favorites from their regular menu – deviled eggs and smoked trout dip – so we ordered both as a starter.

The serving of deviled eggs included five perfectly cooked eggs with a creamy filling that had the ideal balance of tangy mayo and rich egg yolks.

The smoked trout dip was served with pickled jalapeños and crackers. It was another highlight of the meal with a unique smoky, briny flavor complemented by the sharp, slight spiciness of the jalapeño.
After snacking, my friend and I decided we would create our own “girl dinner” – a newly minted term for a meal consisting of small, appetizer-like dishes. We rounded out our dinner with whipped feta with honey and marinated olives; the mixed greens, pear, and pecorino salad; and a side of fries.

Each dish came out quickly and exploded with flavor. From the sweet earthiness of the whipped feta to the fresh, spring-like taste of the salad and the crunchy, salty shoestring fries, each bite was a true delight.
Taylor was the consummate professional throughout our meal – knowing when to check in and when to leave us to chat. She even whipped us up a new cocktail at the end of our dinner that was both stunning and delicious.

We are lucky to have Truss in Lynchburg. It offers an elevated atmosphere with outstanding food and service at a reasonable price. I recommend it for any occasion – a girl’s night out, date night, or even a fun family brunch.
