Dining at the newly opened Uno Mas on 5th Street was an experience filled with vibrant flavors, lively atmosphere, and a few minor hiccups. Located in the former Grey’s space, Uno Mas has been highly anticipated, and the excitement was clear on Friday night. The restaurant was packed, with eager diners filling the cozy yet colorful space. Despite the size, the energy was infectious, making for a fun and dynamic dining experience.

My five girlfriends and I arrived and, like many others, had to wait for a table. We decided to spend the time at the bar, which turned out to be an excellent choice. The drink menu offered a variety of enticing options, and we each selected something different. The strawberry margarita was a hit—flavorful and refreshing without being overly sweet. The Skinny Queen Margarita, as one friend described it, tasted just like the classic version, which was impressive. The lime margarita delivered that perfect balance of tart and sweet. One of my friends opted for the Fresita strawberry martini, a beautifully presented cocktail with a creamy texture. While it looked stunning, she found it a bit too sweet for her liking.

Once we were seated, we wasted no time in ordering appetizers. The chips and salsa were necessary, and we selected two varieties: classic and avocado. Both were flavorful and fresh, complementing the warm, crispy, homemade chips perfectly. The queso was another crowd favorite, rich and creamy, making it an excellent pairing for our chips. When we ran out of chips, the staff quickly brought more, ensuring we could fully enjoy every bit of queso and salsa.

For the main course, the table was filled with a variety of dishes. I chose two tacos: grilled shrimp and battered fish. Each was topped with cabbage, pickled onions, and a creamy surf sauce, making for a delicious bite. While the flavors were spot on, I wished I had ordered a third taco, as the portions were on the smaller side. One friend went with the Sombrero Bowl with steak, which turned out to be a perfectly balanced and fresh combination of rice, pico, corn, spring mix, cilantro lime crema dressing, and queso.

Another friend opted for the Maria Bonita, a plate of enchiladas with mole sauce, as delicious as it was visually appealing.

The flautas were another hit, crispy and flavorful, while the Chile Colorado, served in a tiny Dutch oven, was a spicy, savory delight.

Beyond the food, the ambiance of Uno Mas made for an ideal setting for our girls’ night out. It’s the perfect spot for a fun evening with friends, a casual date night, or just catching up over great food and drinks. The restaurant has a promising future, and I can see it becoming a staple in the downtown dining scene.

That said, there were a few hiccups. The biggest issue of the night was that all our checks were incorrect. Our waitress worked with us to fix the mistakes, but one friend who paid in cash never received her change, effectively leaving an unplanned 50% tip. While we understand the opening weeks have come with some growing pains, this was a frustrating oversight.
Overall, Uno Mas delivered on flavor, atmosphere, and fun, making for a fantastic night out. With a few operational tweaks, this restaurant has all the makings of a downtown favorite.
